Plan B Side Effects

There are 2 types of Plan B side effects and in order to make an informed decision you need to consider both of them. There are the short term effects that you can find on most sites about Plan B and which are posted on their website as well and there are the long time effects that most advocates against Plan B will eventually get to when they are trying to get you not to use it. So we are going to take a look at both these types of symptoms and the reasons why they appear to see if there is really any need for concern. The fact is that there are some side effects of Plan B and you need to take them into consideration before taking the pill.

The short term Plan B side effects include changes in your period, nausea, lower abdominal pain, fatigue, headache and dizziness. Now these are all short term effects and are caused by the fact that you have taken hormones that were not generated by your body. To put it in the simplest form hormones are the way your body communicates with itself and regulates its own functions. What the Plan B hormones are doing is to actually issue new commands regarding the moment in your period you should be in. That is to say if you are during a fertile period the Plan B hormones are telling your body to immediately and quickly switch to a non-fertile period. And that is the simplest way of explaining why they work but therein lays the reason why there are side effects of Plan B to speak of.

Plan B Molecular Formula

In fact all the Plan B side effects start off because your body is doing some incredibly fast changes in its natural monthly cycle. And like any changes there is pain that can go along with them. That is to say your uterus is turning from soft and permeable to being just rigid enough that the egg cannot get implanted. This is something your body would do anyway and that is why some women will actually feel some pain a few days before their menstruation. And of course that these pains and the effect of Plan B will go away within a couple of days when the hormones will have worn off. Also because of these changes that are meant to affect the state of your cycle the period may experience certain changes but these are just side effects of Plan B that will easily vanish in a couple of days.

So now if you think about it you should easily be able to tell why the other Plan B side effects could occur. The fatigue is created by the changes in your body that are happening at a very fast pace and it is no more worrying then the fatigue most women experience during their period. The nausea can be generated by the same thing and it can be also helped by the fact the effort that your liver is doing in processing the hormones in the pills before allowing them to enter your system. And the headaches and dizziness are cause by these two exertions that your body is going through: metabolizing the hormones in the pills and actually going through the changes that the hormones are actually impression on your body. And as you can deduce by yourself already there is really no reason to worry about these short term side effects of Plan B.

As far as the long term Plan B side effects are concerned there are so many things to be debated about them that it is probably impossible to consider them all but we can certainly take a look at some of the more important concerns. The fundamental reason why some people and even some doctors are against birth control pills of any kind is that the endocrine system, that is to say the hormonal system is the one aspect of the human body we know the least about. That is not to say that the pills themselves are a shot in the dark but that there is really no way to determine all the implications of using artificial hormones in the body. And there is some truth to that fact so in all honesty there is the possibility of one day discovering that the hormone treatments do have certain long lasting effects. However before being allowed to market Plan B extensive trials have been conducted on animals and on volunteer humans and no lasting side effects Plan B have been determined.

To put it simply there have been rumors of Plan B side effects that would include cancer, sterility and other forms of physical ailments. However there is no actual study to support any of these claims and if you consider some of them you will easily see that they stem from an irrational fear rather than anything else. That is to say because Plan B can prevent a pregnancy some people have been tempted to generalize the effect and say that it can lead to infertility. But the fact is that Plan B contains only a limited quantity of hormones that create an artificial form of sterility for the brief period they are in your system. Once they are flushed out there is no possibility whatsoever of the effect becoming permanent. And as for cancer, because there are so many forms of cancer and because the actual reasons it appears are not known it is actually easier for people to focus their fears on it, but again there is no proof that cancer is among the side effects of Plan B.
